This is where Shire Martial Arts can help.
As a Martial Arts instructor with over twenty five years experience, I’ve noticed that in everyday life, most people tend to hold THEMSELVES back from reaching their maximum potential, due to a particular fear of some sort, such as the fear of failure, the fear of looking stupid, the fear of not being accepted or not being good enough. There are also kids that are affected by the ‘tall poppy syndrome’ where they play small so that they don’t stand out. The list goes on.
It’s interesting to note that public speaking, or the fear of public speaking, can be as devastating as physical violence on a persons’ psychological health. We all know people who have become physically sick at the prospect of speaking in public and this is one of the ‘personal development’ areas we address at SMA. We don’t serve anyone, when we step into the background and become invisible.
Then aside from a sudden illness, injury or perhaps public speaking, as mentioned, physical violence is one of the worse things that could happen to a person in everyday life. The media highlights and raises this concern for citizens on a daily basis, creating fear, anxiety which can potentially rob people of their independence.
Therefore, by learning how to analyse and respond to an extreme physical attack in a controlled and safe way, Shire Martial Arts students are able to explore, demystify and deal with their own inner fears, in a way that makes them stronger and without hurting anybody else - or themselves. Martial Arts training helps people discover how they may confront and deal with aggression, personal fears, other peoples egos, stress and pain that they are likely to encounter at some point throughout the course of everyday life.
The inner strength, sense of composure and confidence derived from regular Martial Arts training, becomes unsettling for bullies and is why black belts don’t seem to get picked on, even though they don’t advertise the fact that they’re a black belt. In fact, students who regularly practice Martial Arts, start to notice that life’s ‘upsets’ no longer affect them in the dramatic way they once did.
This positive attitude adjustment increases students’ self esteem and encourages them to become self reliant, develop trust in their own judgment and thoughts, therefore not needing to seek approval from the peer group. The power of the peer group is neutralized and so is the pressure to go along with anti social behaviour.
Empowered students’ become their best selves and make sound decisions that lead toward positive relationships and productive lives.
The programs at Shire Martial Arts are not just for sporty or athletic types either. Everyone regardless of their age, shape, size or ability can reap the many rewards that Martial Arts offer. Our Black Belt school is also renowned for physical training that encompasses the principles of charity, humility, loyalty, patience, respect and responsibility. It happens when students’ step into the Dojang and interact with each other and our fantastic Instructors, that are trained to see that no one gets left behind. This is what we call being a Black Belt on the inside.
The curriculum at Shire Martial Arts is known for producing effective Black Belt students, by teaching practical and effective street self defence for men, women and kids. The ‘techniques’ we teach includes blocks, strikes, punches, kicks and holds. Our more advanced classes learn how to defend against a weapon or multiple attackers when unarmed, as well as how to wield a weapon that can be easily accessed in daily life from everyday household items.
